In 1994, way before the term “neobank” was even coined, Commerzbank desired to expand its business and customer base and therefore decided to establish a direct bank: comdirect. The brand positioned itself as a universal bank for private customers with a wide range of specialized products. In 2023, the bank was in need to connect with younger audiences again, and the brand needed to be perceived from a new point of view, as a progressive brand which can talk the way real people talk, and live in the same environments without disrupting their lives and experiences.

We decided to address that need by gaining relevance and becoming part of the Gen Z conversation, by combining banking with... hiphop and fashion! We collaborated with reezy (rapper and producer) and Achraf Bouzalim (founder of the 6PM fashion brand) with to create the “Bürgeramt” team for the newly founded Icon League. We involved them in the conception process, making sure all the content that was being generated felt authentic and close to the target audience.
